LIFELINE & PLACE OF LONGING.
In the 19th century, Hitdorf was an important reloading hub for the expanding trade. Goods from the Bergisches Land were loaded onto ships here and, conversely, supplies for the region were landed. Today, Hitdorf is an idyllic part of Leverkusen. If you cruise south along the Rhine from here, you will see the ship’s bridge at the mouth of the Wupper shortly before the Rhine bridge. Behind the bridge is a small marina and the view sweeps over the Neulandpark, a former landfill site that was transformed into a lively park and popular event location during the Regional Garden Show. Behind it, the towering industrial plants form our “Alps”. This is an impressive backdrop, especially in the evening hours. We in Leverkusen love our bit of the Rhine.
